Students, start your pencils
The state of Minnesota testing season begins today, with a few changes. Third-and fifth-grade tests move from March to April. And new tests for seventh-graders will be "field-tested." Expect more changes next year as the state works to comply with the federal No Child Left Behind act. This year's schedule has three main parts: Needed to graduate: Today: 10th-grade writing. Feb. 4: 8th-grade reading. Feb. 6: 8th-grade math. Tests to measure progress. April 1, 2: 3rd-and 5th-grade reading. April 3: 5th-grade writing. April 8, 9: 3rd-and 5th-grade math. April 14-25: Selected seventh grades take new reading and math tests. April 29: 10th-grade reading. April 30: 11th-grade math. Retakes: April 8-10: Seniors only. July 22-24: Basic writing, reading and math for all students. Will it be sunny side up or over hard for Bush? Get a little national exposure Wednesday morning with your bacon and eggs. Rene Syler, co-anchor of CBS News' "The Early Show" will be broadcasting live from 6 to 8 a.m. Wednesday at Keys Cafe, 767 Raymond Av., St. Paul. She'll be talking to customers about tonight's State of the Union Address. Those who would rather have breakfast at home, can watch the broadcast on WCCO, Channel 4. Because of the time-zone difference, the program has a one-hour delay in the Twin Cities. It starts at 7 a.m.
