Minneapolis faces $28.6 million shortfall

Here's how the 2003-04 budget would be cut, according to a proposal by Minneapolis Superintendent Carol Johnson.

$10.2 million Class size changes

Grades K-2 up from 19 to 22

Grade 3 down from 25 to 22

Grades 4-8 up from 25 to 28

Grades 9-12 up from average 26 to average 30

$9.1 million Central office cuts

Includes elimination of 60 positions.

$6.3 million School allocations

Includes money used by schools for nurses, vocational education and discretionary expenses.

$3 million Holding the line on pay

District will seek contract concessions.
