South St. Paul Public Schools
Special School District No. 6
From the Office of the Superintendent
South St. Paul's city and school district boundaries are nearly the same, fostering a feeling of family, with opportunities for parent and community involvement. South St. Paul has two elementary schools, a 7-12 high school with 7-8 in a middle school setting and a community learning center providing an alternative education.
All K-12 curriculum areas follow a comprehensive scope and sequence that is reviewed periodically. Each curriculum committee, as a part of its continuous improvement plan, works to align the curriculum with state and national education standards.
The District offers All-Day, everyday Kindergarten without a fee. In addition, both elementary schools are in the final implementation stages for the prestigious and highly sought after International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. South St. Paul Junior High is also implementing a Middle Years International Baccalaureate Program (MYP) in grades 7-10. SSP High School offers a well established elite International Baccalaureate placement and credits to students who score well on their I.B. exams. South St. Paul Public Schools is well on their way to becoming what would be one of the first public school systems in the union to offer the demanding International Baccalaureate Program to all of their students.
Since 1990, the Community Learning Center, formally the Area Learning Center has offered an alternative educational program for non-traditional learners. The center provides an alternative environment to meet the unique and personal needs of all its students.
Technology is an integral part that increases educational effectiveness for every child. Students will use technology tools to do research, conduct experiments, collect and organize data, and present their work. Staff members are expected to model effective uses of technology and integrate it to their instruction.
Beyond athletics, students may choose from many extra curricular activities such as math teams, color guard and a prestigious theater program.
In 2007, the South St. Paul Educational Foundation presented 110 graduates with more than $212,000 in scholarships.
Community Education is an integral part of our District that offers a variety of options to meet the needs of our community from Early Childhood and Family Education to Adult Enrichment and BAsic Education programs
