  • Robbinsdale Area Schools takes pride in its strong tradition of achievement in academics and the arts. Our district serves approximately 13,000 K-12 students and a large population of preschool and adult learners with the mission of developing caring, creative and productive citizens.

The district covers seven communities with a population of more than 100,000 residents and 47,000 households in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota, including all or parts of Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Golden Valley, New Hope, Plymouth and Robbinsdale.

We operate 11 elementary schools for students in grades K-5, three middle schools for grades 6-8, two high schools for 9-12 and one alternative high school.

    Academic Success
College-bound graduates of Robbinsdale Area Schools have traditionally scored above the state and national averages on the ACT exam. The class of 2006 had a composite ACT score of 22.1.

Four district students were winners of National Merit Scholarships in 2006. Two students were named Advanced Placement (AP) National Scholars for high performance on college-level exams; 91 were recognized as Scholars.

    Programs
Robbinsdale Area Schools proudly offers a wide range of rigorous options for student learning, including a Spanish Immersion program at elementary and middle school, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement offerings at both the middle and high school level, and a technology focus at Robbinsdale Middle School. Each elementary school offers an all-day kindergarten option and gifted and talented programs. Programs for special education are available at all grade levels.

High schools offer more than 180 courses, 13 AP classes and 75 activities. International Baccalaureate (IB) is a challenging academic program that is recognized and practiced worldwide. Robbinsdale Cooper High School is one of 10 in Minnesota offering IB and Sandburg Middle School offers the only authorized Middle Years IB Program in the state; more than 600 students are enrolled district-wide.

Arts education is emphasized for all ages, and we are proud of our reputation for award-winning programs in drama, music and fine arts. More than 5,000 of our students participate in choir, band and orchestra. Robbinsdale Area Schools developed discipline-based arts education that is now used nationally. District music students perform annually at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis and at prestigious locations around the world. We are the first school district in the nation to receive the Medallion Award from the Children's Theatre Foundation for exceptional contributions to K-12 theatre, and our school board received the 2002 Arts Education Leadership Award from the Minnesota Alliance for Arts in Education for its commitment to arts education for students.

Athletics are also an important part of student life in Robbinsdale Area Schools. Our district offers a full selection of girls and boys sports. In addition, students may participate in more than 30 extracurricular activities, including DECA, chess club, yearbook, Lego League and many other opportunities.

Robbinsdale Area Schools' also offers a comprehensive community education program that serves residents from birth through retirement and includes an early childhood family center, family resource center, senior services, adult academic programs and enrichment classes. Whether it is parenting classes, enrichment programs, English classes for new immigrants or G.E.D courses, thousands of district residents are finding lifelong learning in Robbinsdale Area Schools.
